“A meeting point between the rigour of classical music and the expressive freedom of jazz and world languages.”
An academically trained percussionist and composer, Loris Stefanuto represents a meeting point between the rigour of classical music and the expressive freedom of jazz and world languages. Graduated with full marks in percussion, he has built a multifaceted career across major orchestras and avant-garde projects.
His solid technical training has led him to collaborate with the most important Italian symphonic institutions — RAI National Symphony Orchestra (Milan and Turin), Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, “A. Toscanini” Symphony Orchestra of Parma, OSI Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Teatro “Bellini” of Catania (where he won the percussionists' competition in 1990) — under conductors including Zubin Mehta, Daniel Oren, Vladimir Delman, Spiro Argiris and Moshe Sasson.
Alongside the classical field, he has explored jazz, Latin music and world rhythms, devoting himself actively to composition. He furthered his drumming studies with M° Enrico Lucchini and his percussion studies with Alex Acuña, Ernestico Rodriguez and Candelo Cabezas. In 2001 he attended the drumming and percussion seminar with Elvin Jones and Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez.
Winner of the national competition for teaching at Italian Conservatories — after Cesena, Cuneo, Milan and Parma, he is currently Professor of Percussion at the “G. Nicolini” Conservatory of Piacenza.
